Naloxone kits and training at The Boulders
Virginia law now requires state agencies to have naloxone (also known as Narcan) or other opioid overdose reversal medications available. The law allows employees to possess and administer these medications to someone who is believed to be experiencing or about to experience a life-threatening opioid overdose.
Naloxone kits have been ordered for The Boulders and will be placed next to our AED units on each floor soon.
Having naloxone available and knowing how to use it gives us the tools to potentially save a life while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive. It is not just about compliance with state requirements - it is about being prepared to help a colleague, visitor or community member in a medical emergency.
Lay rescuer training
In conjunction with this requirement, we are offering all staff the opportunity to participate in "Revive! This valuable training will equip you with life-saving skills and knowledge to identify and respond to an opioid emergency if it occurs.
